Myakka Clayworks creates hand crafted ceramic pieces that are decorative and functional. We strive to add a bit of uniqueness, charm, and overall oh-shoot-I-want-that! qualities to our pieces. Also available are our one of a kind Baby Prints, created in your home or ours. After the print is created, the process takes about a month from start to finish. In the end, you are left with a moment in time, preserved in clay. Sizes range from 1 hand or foot to 4. Of course Paw Prints are available, too! Email to set up an appointment. The process for each piece made involves rolling out slabs with earthenware clay. After each tile, bowl, plate, or cup is created, it will sit until it is in a bone dry state. They are then fired in a kiln which requires a firing time of over 7 hours and is over 1800 degrees. Once fired, they are in a bisque form and are then painted with underglaze, glazed, and fired a second time in the kiln. This is the final stage for the ceramic piece. My work is intentionally rough around the edges. I use black underglaze to highlight the marks that occur during the making process which make each piece unique.
